A Poem by Connie Feng

They Sacrificed

Leaving the forest.
Firewood melted the cold hearts
ashes into dust.

Rice withstood torments
was ladled within each bowl--
died in stomach.

Oil splattered,
burned the hands for attention--
was poured into sinks.

Diffused granule
filtered from the broad ocean.
Salt melted into meat.

Connie Feng is a Chinese writer who moved to California at the age of thirteen.  Her passions are listening to classical music and taking care of animals.
